This Saturday felt incredibly packed with a variety of fun activities! Since Korean language school ended last week, our weekends have suddenly opened up, giving us plenty of time to explore the neighborhood.

1. The Chill Vibe of Canadian Youth Soccer
A friend from Korean school plays for the local soccer club, Langley United. They had a match today, so my child and I went to cheer them on.

It seems like soccer has become a huge sport here in Canada recently, with many kids joining local clubs. They were even building a massive new sports field right near our house!
Watching the 3rd-grade match, I noticed a stark difference from the sports culture back in Korea. In Korea, joining a sports club usually means taking it very seriously with strict training. Here, however, it's all about having fun.
There was a noticeable gap in skill levels even within the same team, but no one seemed to mind. The coaches are all parent volunteers, and winning or losing takes a back seat to simply enjoying the game. The parents on the sidelines were just cheering on the kids for trying their best. It was a really refreshing atmosphere.
2. K-Food Festival at Langley Events Centre
Over the weekend, a K-Food Festival was held near our house at the Langley Events Centre, so we went to check it out with some neighborhood friends.
It was much bigger than I expected, and the performances were surprisingly high-quality. A Taekwondo demonstration team put on an amazing show. My child, who currently takes Taekwondo lessons, watched with sparkling eyes and said they want to join a demo team or become an instructor one day!
Of course, a festival isn't complete without food. They were selling a variety of Korean street foods like Kimbap and Tteokbokki. We grabbed a Tornado Potato (회오리 감자), which is quite rare to find here, and it was delicious.
After checking out all the booths, we headed to the playground. Seeing the kids play so independently and make friends with strangers effortlessly made me realize just how much they’ve grown. I no longer have to chase them around the playground!
3. World Cup McDonald's Toys & Unpredictable Weather
We wrapped up the playground session and headed to McDonald's for a Happy Meal.
💡 McDonald's World Cup Promo: With the World Cup kicking off next week, McDonald's is giving out World Cup-themed Squishmallows! There were quite a few varieties to collect.
I also heard that starting next week, McDonald's in Canada will be giving out limited-edition World Cup cups. I'm really hoping to score a Son Heung-min cup!
After leaving McDonald's, we visited a nearby park filled with birds. My kid somehow found some breadcrumbs, put them on their hand, and patiently waited for the birds to come and eat.
The weather today was the definition of unpredictable—it rained, got chilly, and then the sun came out blazing. But despite the crazy weather, we didn't get caught in the rain and spent a fulfilling, joyful day. I'm truly thankful for such a wonderful Saturday!
